About KSILKS
KSilks
aims to improve the lives of poor / disadvantaged Cambodians.
"Fair wages to Artisans, Affordable prices to Customers" this
brief sentence is indeed the fundamental purpose of our organization.
Founded in Cambodia, KSILKS earliest operations began
with the sale and export of individual silk products to Cambodian
nationals living in North America through online auction giant
eBay and
from special requests from individuals outside of Cambodia. KSILKS would travel to remote regions throughout Cambodia in search of the
requested products.
Since
we offered our services
as a
method of sharing Cambodian culture with nationals living abroad, and a
means of exploring the country simultaneously, our intentions were never
strictly financial and still remain so. Shortly after, we found
that interest quickly grew, as no other comparable products/services
existed, this then led to the inception of our website in order to cope
with ensuing orders.

In
a relative short time, our customer base broadened, and it soon became
clear that this small private venture had the potential of expanding
into a niche online project, we have now evolved into a small online
venture which has efficiently exported Cambodian handcrafts throughout
the world.
Having seen
first hand the high levels of poverty throughout the country, KSILKS was
inspired to initiate a cause which aims to enhance the lives of many of
the poverty-stricken Cambodians witnessed throughout Cambodia.
Looking
at our
Cambodian products, two things should be clear: our exquisite silk
products are carefully hand woven sometimes taking several days to weeks
to make, and that each piece is of exceptional quality. Most of
our silk handicraft products are made by disadvantaged Cambodians,
disabled participants of various handicraft organizations, and
independent tailors (living in remote villages).

Ksilks
has actively sought to deal face to face with these poor and isolated
artisans who produce our products. And we offers much higher
compensation to these artisans through our face to face meetings, as the
typical exploitive ‘middle man’ is eliminated.
Socially
conscious, trustworthy and reliable - KSILKS is a small organization
that continually strives to improve the lives of disadvantaged groups in
Cambodia.

KSILKS
was initially led in principle by Andrew Rowe. Andrew Rowe, having lived in
Cambodia, Vietnam and other parts of South East Asia for several years
and seeing widespread poverty firsthand was inspired to initiate a cause
which would help support poverty stricken Cambodians.
Through his
travels Andrew encountered numerous remote and isolated villages filled
with talented yet poor artisans who specialized in producing Cambodian
handicrafts and silks remained too often unaware of the value of their
goods and fell victim to dishonest middlemen who frequented the area.
As a result Andrew forged key
relationships with these well natured artisans and their families, local
markets, non government handicraft organizations (non-governmental), shipping agents and purchasers
within Cambodia. After an extended period Andrew returned to Canada in January 2005 in order
to expand KSILKS operations in North America, expand KSILKS internal management team
and explore
new opportunities specifically in Canada.
With a background in both information technology and business
management, Andrew is responsible for the inception of KSILKS and
continues to play an advisory role with the organization.
